Thiruvananthapuram: Lok Sabha MP Benny Behanan on Friday called for a CBI investigation into the actions of arrested antiques trafficker Monson Mavunkal, saying only an investigation by the central agency can reveal the truth.
Mavunkal, a native of Cherthala, who claims to be in possession of rare and historic antiques, was arrested earlier this week by the Kerala police wing investigating complaints against the dealer for defrauding 10 crore rupees from several people.
Supporting senior executive VM Sudheeran, who called for a CBI investigation into the case, Behanan alleged that high-level police officers were involved in the alleged fraudulent activities of the so-called antique dealer and that there was limits for the criminal branch of the state police to probe him.

Reacting to developments in Congress following Mavunkal’s arrest, the ruling CPI (M) said today that it was “strange” that Sudhakaran went to a fake cosmetologist for treatment.
