Card Collectors Event

PEOPLE will be able to trade, collect and talk about trading cards at an event next month.

After five conventions held in the capital city of Victoria, the Melbourne Card Fair will come to the regions for the first time on Sunday July 3 at Buninyong Town Hall.

The cards will range from the AFL to Pokémon, and fair founder and director Shane Penrose said he wanted to meet Ballarat enthusiasts.

“I just want to meet new collectors,” he said. “It’s a good opportunity for the people of Ballarat, but it’s also a good opportunity for us in Melbourne to meet new people and generate some interest.

“It’s a new market for traders in Melbourne and something new for Ballarat. I don’t think there has been anything like it in a while there.

Cards and souvenirs will be available at over 40 stalls from visiting and local vendors.

Mr Penrose said fairs are always well received and the social component is the most important thing about the fair to him.

“People just like to stop and chat with sellers, and most often get to know each other through internet transactions and forums,” he said.

“It’s great to see everyone come together face to face and have everyone able to hold these collectibles in their hands.

“There are other conventions that are really flashy with a lot of offers. I try to get away from that. It’s basically about connecting collectors.
