Man and woman arrested in suspected house sale scam | KWKT
Waco police have arrested a man and a woman, accused of taking deposit money for a house that did not belong to them for sale.
An arrest affidavit says the scheme dates back to February 2020 when a local couple contacted Christopher Lee Parker about a house he had listed for sale on Facebook.
The victim couple told police they met Parker at a house on Gholson Road and looked at the house and decided they wanted to buy it.
The affidavit said Parker requested a deposit to reserve the house and the couple could then make payments on the house until it was paid off.
The affidavit says Parker and his girlfriend, identified as Wendy Pineda, followed the victim couple to their home and received a $5,000 cash deposit.
The victims then tried to reach Parker to set up payment terms and were unable to get him to respond.
At that time, the victims contacted the police.
The affidavit said the investigator contacted Parker and Pineda and asked them to return the money, but they denied taking the money, although they gave a receipt for it.
It was later determined that the house had never been for sale and that neither Parker nor Pineda owned it.
Officers obtained a warrant for the senior robbery suspects and the two were arrested and incarcerated in McLennan County Jail.
