Why Barcelona could end up selling Aubameyang this summer – report

Despite Xavi Hernandez’s insistence that he wants Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to stay at Barcelona, speculation surrounding the Gabonese sniper refuses to go away.

It’s only been just over seven months since Aubameyang arrived at Spotify Camp Nou, signing a free transfer after terminating his contract with Arsenal. The 33-year-old has integrated perfectly into the Barca squad and played a key role in their strong end to the season last season.

However, the arrival of Robert Lewandowski means the former Arsenal captain is no longer the first-choice striker for Barcelona. And, Chelsea have now turned their sights on the striker, with Thomas Tuchel keen on a reunion after coaching Aubameyang at Borussia Dortmund.

Chelsea are pushing to sign the veteran striker as they are desperate for a No.9. While so far Barcelona have maintained Aubameyang is not for sale, sentiment within the camp could change, reports Marcelo Bechler.

Along with Aubameyang, Memphis Depay is also linked with a summer exit, with Juventus showing serious interest in the Dutch forward. Although there have been claims that a move to Turin could be close, Bechler says the transfer is currently stalled.

This has forced Barcelona to consider the possibility of moving forward with the sale of Aubameyang as he is five years older than Depay and on higher wages than the former Manchester United ace.

So, even though the club prefer Depay to leave on a sporting level, they don’t rule out Aubameyang’s potential exit.

Reports in Spain say the 33-year-old is also open to the prospect of leaving if his demands are met and Barca could demand a €25m fee for Aubameyang if they decide to sell him. However, Chelsea might be reluctant to stick to that assessment.
